The processing of personal information and data is governed by the General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679 GDPR. In order for you to make an informed decision about therapy with me it is important that I let you know how I use your personal information.
Your privacy and confidentiality is important to me and any information you give will be held safely and in a secure manner and only used for the purpose of therapy and any communication with you that pertains to this.
I am registered with ICO and the GDPR states I must have a reason for keeping any information. If you are in contact with me to ask about therapy I will only use this data for this purpose. Should once we have had initial contact—such as email , phone or text and we do not go ahead with a therapy contract I will not keep your personal details. I do not generally keep a waiting list but should you ask me explicitly to keep these with the purpose of letting you know when I have availability then I will if appropriate do so. I do not keep details indefinitely and we would agree a time frame at that point but in most cases I ask that you recontact me to ensure your privacy.
Once we have agreed an initial appointment I will ask you to provide contact details so as I can confirm the appointment and also have a way to contact you should I need to change or amend this. In our initial appointment I will explain more around how I keep information, note keeping and the purpose of notes. You will also receive my Therapy Information and Agreement which explains more about this, confidentiality and privacy.
If you are attending online it is important you understand that it is offered through a 3rd party provider and I will ensure I maintain your privacy within the confines of the provider. There is a possibility, although minimal, that confidentiality may be compromised beyond my personal control. It is important that you take your own responsibility for securing a private and confidential space for the duration of the session whether by telephone or online.
If you are going to use a shared computer please ensure you have some measures in place to ensure your own security such as a password.
At the end of Therapy I will not keep your personal information unless for a specific purpose. I do however need to maintain records of appointments for financial purposes and also retain the notes of sessions so as I have a record of the themes of our work for insurance purposes or should you recontact me.
